Editor’s Welcome
For the Stories We Grew Up With
I grew up with books piled up around my bed every night, enough that the smell of old pages still feels like home to me. I've always found comfort in stories, whatever kind: romance, horror, one about aliens trying to escape a dying Earth. It never really mattered what genre. It just mattered that someone had put a feeling into words.
The more I read, though, the more I started wondering something: do people write stories just so they can hand their feelings to someone else? So we can recognize ourselves in each other, and realize that whatever we're carrying, someone has already found a way to say it?
There was a stretch of time not long ago when I felt strangely numb. Not sad exactly, just flat, like I'd lost interest in everything that used to matter to me. What pulled me back was reading strangers' stories on Substack about that exact same ache, and realizing I wasn't the only one carrying it. That's the real reason this journal exists. Not just because I love stories, but because I know what it's like to need one at the right moment.
